The three C’s of successful content

Ever re-read the words you've used to describe your business and wondered if they really do justice to what you do and offer?

Or maybe you're just sitting down to start describing your new venture, and you're overwhelmed with a flurry of words, ideas and descriptions.

Take a look at what you've written - is it:

  1. Clear?

  2. Compelling?

  3. Concise?

These are the three essential C’s of successful content, and each ensure the words you put together are done so in a way that means something to your audience.

Each meaning in itself is relatively easy to understand, and may seem obvious - but, let’s just clarify to ensure you’re really looking over your words with beady and intuitive eyes!

Clear: Once you have a solid message and know exactly what you want the reader to know, ensuring that message is clear in its context and language is essential to nailing your copy.

One way to ensure you’ve been completely clear in your direction, is to allow someone else to read over your work to see if it makes sense to them (obviously finding someone with no prior knowledge of the content is best!).

Compelling: Does the tone of voice and language work together to create content that is engaging and captivating for your audience?

Does it lack excitement? Are the words colourful or black and white? If you were reading it, would you want to click through?

These are some of the questions you should be asking yourself to determine whether or not your copy is appealing and interesting to your reader.

Concise: Sometimes, less is more when achieving the right content for your business.

Being able to provide a substantial amount of information within a few short sentences can be a skill that over time will develop.

The important thing is, not to over-crowd your copy with ‘filler’ or ‘fluff’ words.

People enjoy reading all the information in one simple sentence, or two.

If your copy isn’t ‘straight to the point’, you’re more likely to have an audience who loses interest quickly.

If you can establish these three basic C’s of content, you’ll be well on the way to creating successful copy no matter what space you’re writing for.

Whether it be for web, social media, blogs - nail the 3 C’s, and you’ll nail your content!
